Double Delight {Finished Quilt}

Finishes make me so happy!

I started this quilt last year after I finished my On Ringo Lake quilt top and wanted a new scrap project. This is another Bonnie Hunter quilt pattern, it is available on her site for free currently, and was a mystery quilt of hers a long while ago. 

I swapped some of the colors in my quilt (burgundy instead of red/brown, chartreuse instead of goldenrod) but for the most part my quilt is pretty similar to the original. I modified my borders slightly so that my top and bottom borders were wider than the side borders so that my quilt top was twin sized instead of full sized.

This quilt was also sent off to the long arm quilter. This has a very simple loop de loop quilting motif.

For the backing, I picked out a navy viney extra wide backing. I also used this fabric for the binding. I was lucky enough to find a brand new spool of navy Aurifil 50 wt. thread to use for the machine binding too!

Now this quilt is finished ready to adorn the futon in my sewing room!

Blocked Rainbow {Finished Twin Quilt}

My twin sized version of my Blocked Rainbow pattern is finally complete! This pattern was our QAL in Spring 2018 and I had made the throw size version in 2017 with fabrics from Benartex. I did actually finish this in December 2018, but we have been racing around nonstop since December 22nd between traveling for Christmas, packing, and moving. Things have finally settled down and I finally was able to snap pictures of this finish!

I made this version of the quilt using Island Batik fabrics and Kona Black as the background. I considered quilting this top myself but after seeing my mom's version of the quilt finished with a simple pantograph, I decided that I wanted the same for my own quilt in black thread!

The backing is a crosshatch grass green extra wide fabric. The binding is also Island Batik -- I believe it is specifically from the Morning Sunshine line but it is an all-over rainbow batik. 

I'm not sure what I'll be doing with this quilt just yet but I am just happy to have it finished! The pattern is available on both Payhip and Etsy.

Donuts {Finished Quilt}

Writing about this quilt makes me hungry! I took this quilt top with me to Michigan in August and my mom did some simple meandering on her mid-arm. It's so nice to have this finished!

The grey thread that my mom used has a slight variegation to it which gives another fun dimension to this quilt!

I love looking at this quilt and thinking about where some of the scraps originated! The fish print in the dusty blue block below came from a scrap bag I bought on vacation in Amish country last October.

For the backing, I picked a teal dot extra wide backing fabric. My mom also trimmed the quilt and bound it for me using the same backing fabric.

It's nice to have a few quilts with a slightly more manly feel to them!

And unlike Wednesday when I was fighting the wind with my Quarter Cabin quilt, the weather was cooperative today and I wasn't worried about my quilt blowing away!

Once again, a huge thank you goes to Amanda Jean of Crazy Mom Quilts for including this amazing quilt in your book! I am so happy to have another quilt finished for this year!

Pansy Garden {Traveling Quilt Bee Finish}

It's really and truly finished! I really wanted to post this earlier, but here in Maryland it has been raining for essentially two weeks and I have been trying to wait to take outdoor pictures. I finally gave up this morning and took a few pictures inside.

I started this quilt in June 2016 as part of the Instagram-based "Traveling Quilt Bee" and received my quilt back in January 2017. I decided it needed a border, so I put my mom and sister in charge of that project and the top was finished in December 2017. I started the quilting in April, did another section of quilting in May, and finished up the quilting in July.

The quilting in each section (as explained in the above posts) is different for each person who added to the quilt! I realized once I trimmed the quilt that the backing is ever-so-slightly diagonal, but it's good enough for me!

I hand stitched the binding down over a few days this last weekend. I personally like a 2.25" double fold binding for my quilts.

This quilt is ready for the next person that comes to visit! Onward to the rest of the projects that I need to finish!

Finished Quilts for Twins

They are finished! Hooray!

I managed to finish both the quilting on the purple-mint-peach quilt AND the pink-yellow-blue quilt on Wednesday, and got the bindings finished this morning.

I quilted the pink-yellow-blue quilt with a simple meander and used a pink flannel backing and a yellow binding.

For the purple-mint-peach quilt, I used a loop-de-loop meander. The backing on this one is purple and the binding is a peach fabric that I used in some of the blocks that I made.

All ready to send off to some very cute sisters!

Saturday Snippets

Yesterday I went shopping and got the flannel that I needed for both of the twin baby girl quilts.

I started quilting the peach/mint/lavender one with loop-de-loops. For this one I found a lavender backing. I will also say that I love quilting quilts with a flannel backing because they slide around so easily, even without a slide pad on my machine!

At this point I think that I have about a third of this quilt quilted. Hopefully I can get a little bit more done this morning.

For the pink/yellow/teal quilt, I got a pink backing. I am about 99% sure that this is the exact same pink flannel that I used to back my t-shirt quilt comforter that I made when I went to college (in 2006 and that I still use to this day as my couch cuddle quilt.)

I am not going to bind these with flannel so that I can just machine bind them completely.

I also bought my yellow and orange thread for my October wall hanging! Go big (spools) or go home, right? There was a lighter shade of yellow, but I think the brighter shade will look better around all of the small squares in the border.

Quilts for Twins -- Tops Complete!

While I may not have mentioned it on here, I have been impatiently waiting for some work friends of Park Ranger Husband to have their twins so that I could make them quilts! They didn't find out the genders of the twins until they were born, so I couldn't work ahead and have two quilts ready to go!

They had two girls -- which I didn't expect! I was pretty sure they were going to have a boy and a girl or two boys. Guess I shouldn't try to become a professional gambler!

I decided to use my Sew Pieceful swap blocks for both quilts. Instead of making matchy-matchy quilts, I made one quilt with my peach-mint-lilac color scheme and one quilt with the pink-yellow-teal color scheme.

I sashed the first quilt with a pink tonal and teal floral cornerstones and sashed the second quilt with a white and purple medallion print with grey cornerstones. All from my stash -- wahoo!

Now I need to get flannel to back the both of these! They are narrow enough that I won't have to piece the backing -- YAY! -- and I will probably quilt both of them in white to keep them light and girly.
