Quilts at the Fair {2016}

In my efforts to catch up this week, I'm finally getting to sharing some of my pictures of the quilts at the fair!

Here's the Best of Show in Quilts -- it was a cream whole cloth quilt with absolutely gorgeous brown long arm quilting.

Unlike years past where each category was grouped together, there didn't seem to be a pattern to how the quilts were arranged. The Hawaiian quilt in the lower right was absolutely gorgeous.

Here's my Candy Shop Quilt and its third place ribbon! It's really sad that they don't have more space for the quilts (or realize that they could have folded this one differently to show off the blocks!)

Sighted: modern fabric! This tends to be a very traditional showing of quilts but I was very excited to see all of the Alison Glass prints in the second quilt on the top row. Next to it you can see my Wishes sampler quilt, which also won a third place ribbon. The kitty in the daisies wall hanging at the bottom right was also exquisite!

More lovely quilts. The tree is a family tree with names on it! Very creative.

Finally here's my Wallflowers row quilt (pattern here!) I actually decided to enter this quilt because it was a slightly more traditional quilt (only slightly!) and it was the only one that didn't win a ribbon. There were probably 10 quilts entered into this category so that might have also played against it as well.

(Also featured, a Mirabilia beaded mermaid cross stitch)

Enjoy your Thursdays everyone. It's a very foggy day here but hopefully we'll see the sun later!

Quilts at the Fair

On Tuesday night,  we made the pilgrimage to the Great Frederick Fair to see how my quilts placed and to pet some animals. Priorities, you know?

I'm so excited to share that my Firewheel Stash Bee Quilt won SECOND PLACE in its division!

My other two quilts came in 4th and 5th in the respective categories -- MUCH better than last year! I have a bone to pick with these judges because of how many panel-based quilts won ribbons. The quilting on them were GORGEOUS but the technical skill to make them was ZERO. Just my opinion.

Here are some of my favorites! Please forgive the not-so-straight pictures -- that's more the way they were hung than my picture taking abilities, I promise! And what I wouldn't give to see the WHOLE quilt of some of these!

I love me a good New York Beauty and this one takes the cake! The quilting on the white border was gorgeous!

This is the wall hanging winner. Such small applique!

I'm not sure what this one's category was BUT I really wish I could see the whole quilt because I have a feeling that it is a colorwashed rainbow. A great take on a hexie quilt!

Because #yayamerica!

This mini quilt actually shows the profiles of all/many of the church spires in the downtown of Frederick, MD. Very neat!

Of course somehow I missed taking a picture of the best in show, but I can tell you it was GORGEOUS! The long arm quilting was exquisite.

Happy Thursday! I have to get back to working on that baby quilt!

Quilts entered in the fair!

Saturday I took three quilts to be entered at the Frederick County Fair! Here are which ones I took and what categories that they were entered in.

Blitzen Basketcase quilt -- Seasonal Category

Frame of Mind MBS Quilt -- Patchwork Category

Firewheel 2014 Stash Bee Quilt -- Made by Group Category

I won a third place ribbon with my 2013 Stash Bee quilt, so I figured it was a good idea to enter that category again! I won't know the results until at least Saturday because I have to go to the fair to find out how I did!

Happy Monday!

Four Counties Quilt Guild Show Favorites

Hello! I am back! Hopefully my secret sewing will be revealed very soon, but in the mean time, I have lots of progress on other projects to share!

This past weekend was the biannual quilt show put on by the Four Counties Quilt Guild. My mom was in town until yesterday and on Saturday we went off to the quilt show. Here are a few of my favorites!

This elephant is made up of all florals!

A red, white, and blue Dresden plate:

Happy birds and birdhouses:

A beautiful scrappy pineapple log cabin:

A stitched feathered star -- that's all stitching and very little fabric!

A fun take on a hexie quilt:

This blue and green Baby Jane:

A 1930s double wedding ring:

And last but not least -- a Swoon!

Of course, all this did was lengthen my quilt bucket list and number of FMQ motifs I want to try!

Be back tomorrow with some real quilt progress!

Quilts at the Fair -- I won a ribbon!

Saturday I popped over to the Great Frederick Fair to see the quilts and see if I had won any ribbons.

My Stash Bee quilt won Third Place in the Quilts by a Group category!

My other two quilts didn't place, but these two categories were the most popular -- Long Arm Quilted by Another and Made by Machine.

The other quilts were gorgeous as well! The Mini quilts were so intricate!

Although you can't see it well in this picture, this double wedding ring table topper has gorgeous gold machine quilting on it.

I think this 1930's star quilt was my favorite. It was pure perfection and fun!

I always have a soft spot for pineapple log cabin quilts!

I even spotted some gorgeous Kate Spain in the Patchwork Category!

I walked the whole fair and had to see the baby ducks and chicks:

And I checked out all the beautiful flowers!

I took lots more pictures which you can check out on Instagram! Happy Monday!
