Finished New York Beauty

This one is a bit of a bonus finish!

My mom had planned to come out this weekend and we were going to go to the quilt show in Lancaster, but then I got engaged and this weekend became "wedding dress shopping weekend." (We succeeded, FYI. Smiles all around.)

She brought me my quilted New York Beauty Quilt and I LOVE the clam shell pantograph on it. It really picks up on all of the arcs in the design.

And here are some binding in process pictures...

And here is the finished lovely!

Feels pretty good to get this one crossed off the WIP list!

Finished NY Beauty Top

I finished up my half blocks last night and spent a lot of time moving blocks around so that the same colors weren't too close together. More than once all of the maroon fabrics ended up in the top half or just two rows. It's kind of complicated to achieve the look of random without a little bit of planning in advance. Kind of a paradox.

Enough with my rambling, here is the finished top:

I'm so excited about finishing this one up! I'm not sure if this one needs borders or not because it is already 48 by 64 inches. Things go a LOT faster when you make bigger blocks!

Stopping Points

This weekend, I didn't end up getting a ton done, but I did manage to get to some significant progress points for a couple projects.

I finished the 10th New York Beauty Block and remade the 3rd one because I wasn't happy with the way the layout. Here they are together:

So now I need to make a final decision about the layout to see how many more blocks (or half blocks...maybe) I will end up needing to make. I'm actually getting to the point of having used up a lot of the fabric that I started with so I'm pretty sure this one will end up as a wall hanging or throw.

I also received the 6 storage boxes that I ordered from Joann that were the one day special this past week because they are the spring colors. I think the colors are fantastic. Four of the boxes are now home to projects in progress and two are full of my scrap fabric. Huzzah for organization!

Tonight I made the final argyle block! Now just to wait for my Chocolate Kona to show up on my doorstep (hopefully tomorrow!) for the setting triangles and spend hours figuring out how to mix up all of the blocks so that the same colors don't end up next to each other.

Hope you had a wonderful weekend!

Slow Goings

It's been a busy week for me between Park Ranger boyfriend visiting for nearly 4 days (4 DAYS!!!), work, volunteer schtuff, and just regular life. So sewing has been a little bit on the back burner. I started and finished another New York beauty block, one of the more complicated ones, so it ended up taking two days to just get the paper piecing done. Oh geez oh man.

Here's the finished product:

The October/November Nubees hives were also assigned and I got three of my four blocks done! I used the Card Basket block via Quilter's Cache (modified slightly for simplification).

And now I get to listen to whatever party my neighbors across the hall party it up and resist going to bed at 8 PM today.

Weekend Productiveness

Because I had a little major meltdown about my lab stuff, I ended up spending most of my weekend at home sewing on my argyle quilt. And I made homemade chicken noodle soup! It is delicious.

I did finish up another New York Beauty Block:

I made a lot of progress on my argyle quilt. I made more than 30 blocks!

Here's all the ones I made this weekend as well as the growing stack of all of them living on my kitchen chair.

Hope your weekends were also productive! Sign up for the jelly roll strip swap that I'm hosting!

Keeping Up

My mom and grandma have been here this weekend so I had to put the sewing on the backburner, but since last I posted, I finished up my last bee block for the month and sent them all off.

I also finished up another New York Beauty block and took a picture of all seven that I have completed so far.

Work In Progress... Friday?

I am finally not spending 16 hours a day on campus so I have a little bit of time to sew. Just a little.

I finished up another New York Beauty block:

I am still plugging away on my argyle blocks.

I really need to start finishing things!

Beauteous

I am back from my weekend to see Park Ranger Boyfriend earlier than expected and was able to finish up another New York Beauty Block this afternoon before I get back into full-on sorority recruitment mode in a few hours.

This one I actually finished earlier in the week before I left:

And this one I finished today:

In other news, Park Ranger Boyfriend's presentation was absolutely wonderful and we had a nice weekend visiting with his family and Park Ranger Boyfriend's Park Ranger Buddies.

Weekend wanderings

I have taken a little break from my argyle quilt to use my new fabric for my New York Beauty blocks. I finished the third block yesterday:

Here are all three finished blocks:

I started the fourth block and the paper piecing is completed:

WIP Wednesday: Back in Gear

Over the weekend, I got the yard of fabric that I needed to finish the sashings for Park Ranger Boyfriend's Civil War quilt. Last night I sewed all of the sashing pieces onto the blocks except for the the left edge. Tonight I'm going to start working on the last part of the sashing and sewing things into rows.

I also got another New York Beauty block done on Monday:

I also took MAJOR advantage of the $3.95 cotton sale at Fabric.com and ordered some more peaches, brown, and teal to match the colors in my New York Beauty blocks. And some other things too, of course.

What are your WIPs today?

Lately

In my frustration of not being able to work on my Civil War Quilt for Park Ranger Boyfriend, I started a new project and continued working on an old one.

I continued working on my scrappy baskets, as I found some more white on white prints in my stash. Hooray!

I started working on some New York Beauty blocks in using some other scraps and some small cuts of fabric in my stash.

In other news, I had a fun weekend visiting Park Ranger Boyfriend. We went to Gettysburg for the afternoon on Saturday and generally ate a lot of food at a lot of different places. It was excellent. Here I am at the Michigan Cavalry Memorial:

Hope you all are ready to start your weeks! (I'm not!)
