Finished Argyle Quilt

It's finally finished after a long, long time as a WIP!

This is an embarassing admission, but this quilt has been sitting at my apartment only needing the binding sewn on since May. Oops.

I hand stitched the binding on the back, so it took me quite a few hours of watching The West Wing on Netflix to finish it!

This one is going on our bed later today!

Argyle Quilt Progress

After finishing my Lucky Square, I decided that I should spend the rest of April finishing up loose ends on other projects.

So I pulled out all of the blocks for my Argyle quilt and laid the whole thing out. It did take a while to make sure that it looked "random" enough. There really needs to be an app for randomizing blocks like yesterday.

I did all of the setting triangles next. Note: this was a royal pain because it wasn't right angles. I didnt' really measure them either. I kind of just sewed them and squared them up and then added the next row. Totally janky, but I got it done!!!

After I put it on my bed I realized that it was very long but ever so slightly narrow for my queen sized bed. I added borders of the large floral print on the left and the right to give it a little bit more width (except I guess I didn't take a picture.)

WIP Wednesday: So close, yet so far

Remember how I said I was waiting for my 3 yards of Chocolate Kona to arrive to start working on the top of my argyle quilt?

It arrived....I just can't get it. I forgot to put a note on my door so its living at the leasing office downstairs until I can get it. Which is probably Saturday. Backburner-ed again.

On the tree skirt front, I realized that did not cut enough squares for it! I think. It's hard when you don't know exactly what you're working with. So I added in another lighter fabric.

And now it is 11 blocks by 11 blocks square instead of 10 by 10 and hopefully it won't be too small (again.)

And now I have to sew this thing together like a puzzle because I was too excited previously and had put some of it into four patches that are not lining up now that I added in the extra fabrics. Time to find my seam ripper!

Stopping Points

This weekend, I didn't end up getting a ton done, but I did manage to get to some significant progress points for a couple projects.

I finished the 10th New York Beauty Block and remade the 3rd one because I wasn't happy with the way the layout. Here they are together:

So now I need to make a final decision about the layout to see how many more blocks (or half blocks...maybe) I will end up needing to make. I'm actually getting to the point of having used up a lot of the fabric that I started with so I'm pretty sure this one will end up as a wall hanging or throw.

I also received the 6 storage boxes that I ordered from Joann that were the one day special this past week because they are the spring colors. I think the colors are fantastic. Four of the boxes are now home to projects in progress and two are full of my scrap fabric. Huzzah for organization!

Tonight I made the final argyle block! Now just to wait for my Chocolate Kona to show up on my doorstep (hopefully tomorrow!) for the setting triangles and spend hours figuring out how to mix up all of the blocks so that the same colors don't end up next to each other.

Weekend Productiveness

Because I had a little major meltdown about my lab stuff, I ended up spending most of my weekend at home sewing on my argyle quilt. And I made homemade chicken noodle soup! It is delicious.

I did finish up another New York Beauty Block:

I made a lot of progress on my argyle quilt. I made more than 30 blocks!

September Bee Blocks (and more argyle)

My crazy two weeks are finally over and I have more time to sew, finally!

This month for the NuBees swap I decided to do the Box Quilt block from Quilter's Cache. I got three of the four done yesterday!

I altered the way that I made the blocks from the directions and I'll be talking about that tomorrow.

I also got 7 more argyle blocks done, bringing my total up to 55:

Work In Progress... Friday?

I am finally not spending 16 hours a day on campus so I have a little bit of time to sew. Just a little.

I finished up another New York Beauty block:

I am still plugging away on my argyle blocks.

I really need to start finishing things!

I Love Argyle

I started a project that I have been anticipating for almost two years. I collected Kitty Yoshida's City Girl in coral and took a while before I found the Tula Pink Honey Honey pattern and knew it was perfect. The whole pile has been sitting on my shelf since I moved to PA in an effort to finish my WIPs.

So after finishing the top of Park Ranger Boyfriend's Civil War quilt, I felt like I could start a new project with a clean conscience. Plus, I found some of the coordinate fabrics on the $3.95 sale at Fabric.com last week. (More on that tomorrow.)

But as usual, I forget to take pictures of every step. Drat. Here's one picture of in progress from making the patch diamonds and putting the first border on them.

Here's my completed blocks laid out on the wood floor:

The pattern calls for 39 blocks, but I plan to use up as much of the fabric as I can and keep making blocks. I have 41 blocks made so far, and have center strip sets ready for 14 more blocks.

I've been doing the math trying to figure out how many blocks I will need for a bigger quilt. I do have fabric reserved for a border and for a backing, but I might have to piece a back if this thing ends up as big as I think it might.
