Updates and News {A Feeble Attempt To Catch Up}

Hello, remember me? A once regular blogger who unintentially took four weeks off from blogging? Whoops.

As I may have mentioned, I have been working from home full time since mid-March and will be continuing to do that for about another month. Despite being home all the time (and I do seriously mean all the time) the sewing has gone to a snail's pace with the exception of a few masks here and there and my June Island Batik project.

Here's a sneak peak of that project:

Normally I am a "posting progress as I go" kind of person, but this time, I am waiting to show off this quilt until the top is complete (hopefully early next week) and show it off all at once because it will be our next quilt along project. Yes! Finally! The last six months have been a wild whirlwind and eventually we'll get started on our QAL for 2020.

Speaking of quilt alongs, I am also happy to share that Honey, Bunny, and Doll is once again a sponsor of this year's Meadow Mist Designs mystery quilt along! This year's quilt is called the Morewood Mystery!

We at Honey, Bunny, and Doll would also like to give our customers a huge thank you for all of the support you've given us in 2020. So far in 2020, our Etsy shop has done over 400 sales thanks to your support, most of which were fabric sales. Normally the bulk of our sales are patterns, but we switched into fabric shop mode to fulfill the call when many of your local quilt shops had to temporarily close for coronavirus safety reasons. Thank you for choosing us!

Continuing in Etsy news, our Etsy shop is currently on "maternity leave"! My sister Amanda (who manages our Etsy and Payhip shops) is expecting a baby very soon so we have put the shop in "vacation mode" until we can ship orders again. If you'd like to know when our Etsy shop reopens, you can sign up to get an email on our Etsy page or follow us on Facebook. In the meantime, all of our PDF patterns are still available in our Payhip shop.

Hopefully next week, there will be real quilting happening around these parts again!

Sea Glass Donuts {Finished Quilt Top}

I finally got back to work on my Donuts quilt! This pattern is from Amanda Jean's book No Scrap Left Behind. (not an affiliate link)

I had finished up all of the block sections quite a bit ago and just had dawdled about getting the grey solid for the background. When I needed black for my Breezy Blooms quilt, I also told my mom to send me some yardage of whatever shade of light grey she had on hand in the Etsy shop. She sent me three pieces of Kona Shadow that totaled the yardage that I needed.

This quilt definitely has to be laid out in advance before construction since the "donuts" interlink. I didn't lay out the quilt in its entirety all at once, but I did lay out the block sections in the order that I would like them to appear in the quilt.

Because the rings interconnect, I found it easiest to lay out one ring at a time to get the blocks arranged in the way that I liked so that the repeated fabrics were spaced out in a pleasing manner.

As you might be able to guess from the picture -- these are big blocks!

I found that it was easiest to put together the top two rows of each block, sew the block halves into rows, and then the remaining block parts would be used in the next row connected to the next row of blocks. (I highly suggest getting Amanda Jean's book even if it's for JUST this pattern.) Part of this was thinking this would make it easier to stop and start on this pattern, but I got started on it and got it all together in just two days (with a break for some FMQ!)

The top is now complete!

Another quilt added to the very large pile of things that I need to quilt or have quilted! Being that I'll be flying to Michigan next Saturday (!!!!) at least a few of these tops will be taken to be long arm quilted there. I'm leaning towards having this one long arm quilted and I'm trying to decide on what color I might want to use for the backing. Another perk of visiting the Honey, Bunny, and Doll Quilts "home office" in Michigan is in-person access to all of the Etsy shop fabric for color matching.

Happy Friday! I am counting down the days until retreat and a few days off of work!

Summer Patio Pattern Premiere {Giveaway and Sale!}

I'm excited to share our newest Honey, Bunny, and Doll pattern -- Summer Patio!

This pattern is perfect for the jelly rolls you've been hoarding in your stash! This pattern includes a twin size option (68" x 91") and a full size option (77" x 91"). Rather than using a background fabric for the sashing, this pattern uses a single fabric for the borders and the sashing to make the blocks float like tiles! You can get the pattern on Etsy or Craftsy.

We've also reached a huge milestone -- over 900 likes on our HBD Facebook page! Thank you for showing such support for us over the last few years! We love designing patterns and selling fabric. As a little thank you to all of our friends and followers, our Christine's Kitchen and Starburst patterns are $9 on Etsy for a short time only! (Regularly $12!!)

So let's also do a Summer Patio pattern giveaway! As is our normal MO, leave comments to enter!

1. Leave a comment with what fabric line you'd use to make your own Summer Patio quilt. I think it would be great in any Bonnie and Camille line!

2. Leave a second comment if you are a follower of Little Bunny Quilts (blog, Instagram) or Honey, Bunny, and Doll (FB page, FB group, Instagram)! We couldn't have gotten to where we are without you!

I'll pick winners (YES WINNERS!) next Monday and update this post when I do!

Here are our winners!

Happy Tuesday!

Blocked Rainbow QAL {Introduction}

The 2018 quilt along is now over and the entire pattern is available as a single PDF pattern on Etsy and Craftsy.

To start - why this quilt? I chose this quilt as it's a great project for quilters of any skill level. The individual blocks use basic quilting techniques but is more modern than your standard sampler. It is a sampler in that you're using a variety of different blocks, but uses the blocks to create the secondary rainbow design.

With individual blocks, it's easy to modify this to be a scrappy quilt or to make each set of blocks in a single fabric, as I did in the original. This quilt along also has the option to make larger blocks in the same patterns to make a twin sized quilt! I'll be sharing suggestions as we go along if you're making a scrappy version.

For my quilt, I'm using a variety of Island Batik fabrics that I set aside from last year's Island Batik Ambassador boxes and some that I pulled out from this year's box! I'm going to use Kona Black for my background. I'm using 3-4 different fabrics for ROYGB and one purple fabric.

We hope that you will join in on making a fun quilt! Join our Facebook Group and use the hashtag #BlockedRainbowQAL on Instagram to share your pics and progress!

Hop to the Shop {HBD Shop Updates}

Since I've been busy working on projects I can't show you yet, I can at least show you a few new things in the HBD Etsy Shop. With Valentine's Day coming up, it's the perfect time to drop those hints to your beloved that you want fabric and patterns!

Speaking of Valentine's Day, we still have Valentine placemat kits available! Just add batting and you're set to make four heart placemats with our Seasonal Placemats pattern.

And as you might have seen on our Facebook page, we have added four new colors of extra wide backing in the last month! I picked out the plum dot print to use with my Top Spin quilt.

As always, we are stocked with Kona in basic colors and happily combine shipping on whatever you might want to order.

Finally, we have a variety of placemats, throws, and even a few larger quilts for sale as samples. We're working on new patterns that will be coming out later in the spring and have to make room for our new samples! Join our Facebook Group to stay in the loop and get sneak peaks of what we're working on!

Happy Monday!

Something Wicked This Way Comes {Halloween Kit + Patterns}

I'm not much of a Halloween person -- but I am a big Halloween sewing fan!

For a short time only, we've put together a new kit for Halloween placemats! The kit includes all of the fabric you need to make four candy corn placemats using our Seasonal Placemats pattern (set #2).

The kit includes off white for the background, the black candy corn print border, black Kona for the backing, yellow for the binding, and small pieces of orange and yellow for the applique. The kit also includes the entire Seasonal Placemats Set #2 pattern -- which also includes patterns for a shamrock version and a flower version.

Here's the original version of these placemats that my mom made with pumpkin fabric as the border.

Seasonal Table Runner Set #2 has matching table runners for your place mats too!

Don't forget that we also have our Halloween Spooks table runner/wall hanging pattern! This is one of our original patterns and has your choice of six different applique options for a table runner or wall hanging.

The fun pieced border lets you show off all of those cute Halloween fabrics we love to collect! I'm going to hang up my Halloween wall hangings when I get home today!

Shop 'til You Drop {HBD Shop Updates}

While it hasn't been that long since I posted the last HBD shop update, we've had even more things added to the Etsy shop for your shopping pleasure!

In addition to the standard colors of Kona we've carried for a few years, we've also added Kona Blueberry! This is a beautiful blue -- perfect for those baby boy quilts!

We've also added new fat quarter bundles to our precut selection. Need fat quarters for a swap or for gifts for your guild mates? Pick up one of our mystery fat quarter bundles!

Finally and most importantly, we are also excited to announce that we are a sponsor of the Wayward Transparency QAL with Quilting JetGirl!

In addition to sponsoring a prize for a participant, we have also worked with Yvonne to put together some kits for the quilt along! These are the four current kit combinations: blue Kona, brown Kona, grey Kona, and teal batiks. Yvonne will be telling all about the kits tomorrow on her blog.

As always, we will refund shipping overages on any excess shipping - don't forget to add some additional yardage to your cart for binding or just adding to your stash! Click here to see the kit listing on Etsy!

Happy Friday everyone!

Selling like Hot Cakes {HBD Shop Updates}

Since my sewing has mainly consisted of working on secret sewing and, well, not sewing, today I have a few fun updates from our Etsy shop!

First and foremost, thank you to everyone who has purchased their background fabric for the Magnolia QAL through our shop! We have decided to extend the sale into August so if you still haven't bought background fabric for the QAL yet OR just want to stock up on Kona at an amazing price ($6 a yard!) click on over to our shop.

Next, my mom did a little "shop cleaning" and put together some fun bundles to clear out some stock before the fall! We have a 1.5 inch strip bundle, a 2.5 inch strip bundle, as well as mystery fat quarter bundles! Don't forget that we have kits available for Hip to be Square, Diamond Fire, and Bear Tracks! Our kits include the PDF pattern, so you don't have to buy it separately!

Finally, we now carry three of our most popular patterns in hard copy! Starlight, Bear Tracks, and Ready, Set, Soar! are currently available as print versions that will be mailed to your home.

As always, we love our supporters! If you have questions about our patterns, shop offerings, or really anything quilting, do not hesitate to email us or leave a comment here on the blog!

Bear Tracks Pattern Premiere and Giveaway!

I am so excited to share Honey, Bunny, and Doll's newest pattern with you today -- Bear Tracks!

This quilt is made in Heather Rosas' Winter Wonderland line! This fabric is absolutely adorable! Perfect inspiration in the midst of all of the snow we've gotten in the DC area lately!

We also just posted this pattern and fabric as a quilt kit on Etsy! The kit includes the pattern, fat quarter bundle, and the backing -- all for $70!

This is our first pattern that includes a pattern for its mini version -- and you don't have to buy it separately! Not only that, but you can make both the wall hanging/throw quilt AND the mini quilt from one quilt kit!

So how about a giveaway for a copy of the pattern? Leave me a comment with what fabric line you would use to make your own version of the Bear Tracks quilt! Winner will be announced on Monday!

As for me, I've started my own version of this quilt in pink, brown, and white for a baby girl quilt! These are the fabrics I'll be using:

As always, don't forget to follow Honey, Bunny, and Doll on Facebook for flash sales and pattern premieres!

Update: the giveaway is now closed and Cecilia is the winner!
