Weekend Piecing

I started putting together some of the blocks that I have received thus far from being the Queen Bee in the Stash Bee last month. I have a few more that are currently on their way to me so I will finish piecing it all once I receive all of them.

Here's 16 blocks put together thus far:

I can't wait to get the rest of them and put it all together! I will end up with at least 36 blocks -- so this one will end up pretty large! I am planning to make it into a picnic and beach quilt. :)

I finally added the side borders to the Harry Potter paper pieced quilt. I strip pieced the two side borders from 5 strips of light and dark brown fabric and then sewed them together staggered to make the final diamond like pattern. I am very happy with it and probably won't add any more borders to it. Now it just needs quilting! Hooray!

Here's a close up of the trimmed and sewed side border. The way that I cut and sewed the two wood grain fabrics together ended up with the light grain going one way and the dark grain going the other so that they look woven! Hooray for happy accidents!

Happy Sunday to you all!

Shelves

It's been a long while since I worked on this quilt!

I cut the dark brown shelves for the Harry Potter quilt 2.5" wide from a wood grain fabric from Riley Blake.

Because this quilt is somewhat narrow, I'm planning to do a pieced border on the right and left sides, and then do an outer border with some Fairy Frost in a color to be determined.

Getting closer and closer to being done!

WIP Wednesday: Feeling Festive

Happy WIP Wednesday! This past weekend, I finished up the last of the blocks of the Harry Potter Project of Doom quilt for my sister and last night I sewed all of the blocks into rows.

Now to start searching for appropriate "bookcase" material to sash the rows together and use as borders.

I also made a batch of these mint chocolate chip cookies. They turned out delicious. And GREEN.

And if you haven't entered yet, check out my Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day post and givewaway!

Holiday Happenings

Happy belated Thanksgiving, everyone! I have been on the road and visiting family, so yesterday was the first day that I got any sewing done since this weekend!

I was lucky enough to email Danny at just the right moment and filled an open spot in the Stash Bee in Hive 4! This month's Hive Mama was Jess of sewcraftyjess and she requested these fun string type blocks. They are so easy to make and GREAT stash buster blocks! I even had some blue and orange striped fabric that fits in perfectly.

Did you guess what my secret project was? If you guessed the Harry Potter Project of Doom, you would be correct! My sister did guess correctly and she loves her blocks! I am more than halfway done with all of the blocks already.

The general consensus is that Hedwig the Owl is my mom and sister's favorite block so far. Off to paper piece some more until I have to leave to go back to Park Ranger Boyfriend's tonight!

Civil War Blocks 31-39

Most of these were done on Marathon Harry Potter/Quilting Boxing Day Extravaganza!

31. Empty Spools

Simple dimple.

32. Carolina Lily

If you remember, I Y-seam like a boss.

33. Indiana Puzzle

I can definitely own curved seams as well.

34. Rosebud

Pinwheel flowers!

35. Star of the West

Stars. Again.

36. Kentucky Crossroads

Another quick and easy block. Other than mine turned out like 10 inches wide. Hmmm.

37. Confederate Rose

Love the colors on this one.

38. Ohio Star

More stars, more awesome color combos. No big deal.

39. Hovering Hawks

If you squint, you might see birds.

Hope you all are recovering nicely from your hectic holidays!

Minor Detours

So I've been posting my Civil War blocks that I have gotten done over the last few days, but I had to stop and take a quick detour for two things.

First.

I finished the Cheery Quilt! Yay! The custom quilting on it is beautiful. I basically said that I wanted whatever, and its perfect. The large blocks have large leafy flowers. The strip sashings have loop de loops and the sashing squares have swirls. The border has some sort of an ivy-type leafy/feathery vine. So sue me if I don't know all the proper terms for all these patterns.

So I got the binding done yesterday and here is the finished product!

I'm currently in the process of packing up the necessaries to go to Park Ranger Boyfriend's tomorrow and then back home to Michigan! Of course that means I'm taking some of my projects with me as well, because my sister and I scheduled a 20 hour, 8 movie Harry Potter marathon for Boxing Day.

Merry Christmas to you!
