Blocked Rainbow QAL {Introduction and Kona Sale!}

It's kick-off day hooray! Today I'll be sharing all about the details of the quilt along including yardage, a special Kona sale in our HBD Etsy shop, and more about the quilt!

To start - why this quilt? I chose this quilt as it's a great project for quilters of any skill level. The individual blocks use basic quilting techniques but is more modern than your standard sampler. It is a sampler in that you're using a variety of different blocks, but uses the blocks to create the secondary rainbow design.

With individual blocks, it's easy to modify this to be a scrappy quilt or to make each set of blocks in a single fabric, as I did in the original. This quilt along also has the option to make larger blocks in the same patterns to make a twin sized quilt! I'll be sharing suggestions as we go along if you're making a scrappy version.

Let's jump in! To get a printable version of our quilt introduction (including yardage requirements and our schedule) click on over to Craftsy!

Here are the yardage requirements for each size:

Our Etsy shop is now offering yardage specials for those of you interested in buying Kona solids as your background for the quilt along! The throw yardage bundle (2.5 yards) will be $15 + flat rate shipping and the twin yardage bundle (4.5 yards) will be $27 + flat rate shipping.

For my quilt, I'm using a variety of Island Batik fabrics that I set aside from last year's Island Batik Ambassador boxes and some that I pulled out from this year's box! I'm going to use Kona Black for my background. I'm using 3-4 different fabrics for ROYGB and one purple fabric.

We hope that you will join in on making a fun quilt! Join our Facebook Group and use the hashtag #BlockedRainbowQAL on Instagram to share your pics and progress!

  1. This is such a fun quilt. This would be so fun to make scrappy.

  2. I tried hi Alison looking forward to quilting along. I tried to download from Craftsy however when I do it switches to my class library and won't download. Not sure whose issue it is.

    1. Hi Fonda, I have no way to email you but it sounds like an issue on your end. You just need to add it to your cart and then get the free download. It will be added to your Craftsy library.

  3. Hi Allison. Need to finish my other quilt along and then I'd like to join you. This would make a great donation quilt , as I have said before.
