Up in the Air {New Applique Pattern!}

 We've added another applique add-on to our Etsy and Payhip shops for use with our Ready Set Soar and Boot Scootin' Baby patterns!

Our "Up In the Air" hot air balloon appliques are another perfect baby quilt option!

Inspired by the hot air balloon fabric she used in this quilt, Amanda made this baby quilt for a good friend last year! The PDF includes applique templates for three different sizes of balloons and two different sizes of clouds.

Don't forget our other add-on applique options! Both Whales on Parade and Slow and Steady are perfect for little boy quilts!

All of these appliques are interchangable with our Ready Set Soar and Boot Scootin' Baby patterns! And of course, the options for the quilt bases are only limited by your own imagination!

Aztec Lagoon (Pattern Now Available!)

 Another new pattern to share today!

Aztec Lagoon is an easy quilt for strips with multiple size options! The wall hanging (or baby) sized version uses 2.5" strips. The cover quilt and the rainbow alternate both shown below are the wall hanging sized version. I quilted the rainbow version a long while ago when my sister was originally testing the pattern!

The larger versions of the quilt -- the throw and twin sized options -- use 3.5" strips in the same arrangement to make larger quilts! 

Here's a mock up of the quilt with the colorway reversed. The pattern also includes a coloring sheet for you to design your own colorway!

Daisy Chain {Pattern Now Available!}

Hip hip hooray! The full pattern of our previous QAL quilt, Daisy Chain, is now available! This pattern is now available in our Etsy and Payhip shops.

I have now made three different Daisy Chain Quilts!

The pattern includes four different size options: baby, throw, twin, and queen. The pattern is perfect for confident beginners. The main techniques used in this quilt are strip piecing and making QST units.

This quilt also can use some of those 2.5" strips you have hanging around! The quilt is written to be easily adaptable to yardage, scraps, or a combination of the two.

Updates and News {A Feeble Attempt To Catch Up}

Hello, remember me? A once regular blogger who unintentially took four weeks off from blogging? Whoops.

As I may have mentioned, I have been working from home full time since mid-March and will be continuing to do that for about another month. Despite being home all the time (and I do seriously mean all the time) the sewing has gone to a snail's pace with the exception of a few masks here and there and my June Island Batik project. 

Here's a sneak peak of that project:

Normally I am a "posting progress as I go" kind of person, but this time, I am waiting to show off this quilt until the top is complete (hopefully early next week) and show it off all at once because it will be our next quilt along project. Yes! Finally! The last six months have been a wild whirlwind and eventually we'll get started on our QAL for 2020.

Speaking of quilt alongs, I am also happy to share that Honey, Bunny, and Doll is once again a sponsor of this year's Meadow Mist Designs mystery quilt along! This year's quilt is called the Morewood Mystery! 

We at Honey, Bunny, and Doll would also like to give our customers a huge thank you for all of the support you've given us in 2020. So far in 2020, our Etsy shop has done over 400 sales thanks to your support, most of which were fabric sales. Normally the bulk of our sales are patterns, but we switched into fabric shop mode to fulfill the call when many of your local quilt shops had to temporarily close for coronavirus safety reasons. Thank you for choosing us!

Continuing in Etsy news, our Etsy shop is currently on "maternity leave"! My sister Amanda (who manages our Etsy and Payhip shops) is expecting a baby very soon so we have put the shop in "vacation mode" until we can ship orders again. Hopefully next week, there will be real quilting happening around these parts again! 

Faceted Churn Dash {Finished Wall Hanging}

If you are in our Honey, Bunny, and Doll FB group, you've seen all of the progress on this wall hanging!

I hosted a "casual QAL" for our Faceted pattern collection on FB this fall -- it was a lot of fun to do something from an already written pattern rather than a brand new pattern and it's something I will do again!

Returning back to the beginning, I cut the majority of the scraps used in this project using my Accuquilt cutter. 

A lot of half-square triangles later, I incrementally made the pieces and parts for this quilt top.

Parts became the block, and I added the pieced border.

For the quilting, I used a flowerly paisley motif. This is different from my other Faceted wall hangings, where I did different quilting motifs in the piecing, background, and borders.

For the backing, I found a few large pieces of some of my scrap fabrics and sewed them together. I used four different WOF strips of different sizes, which was perfect because the quilt is 36" square.

For the binding, I had just enough of the grey/teal/yellow medallion print. For the hanging sleeve I also used the zig zag print.

Now to find a place to hang this beauty!

Hip To Be Square -- Times Two {A Piece Of Blog Hop}

Today is my day on the A Piece Of blog hop with Island Batik, showing off their new fabric lines, shipping to stores now!

The line of fabric I was assigned was "Little Sir, Little Miss"! This fabric line has a whopping 40 different prints!

Instead of trying to squeeze all 40 prints into a single quilt, I decided to split the prints up into two quilts! I used our fast-and-fun pattern Hip To Be Square for these quilts!

For the first quilt, I used the black and tan numbers print for the background with the neutral and warm colored prints. I used a peach Aurifil thread to free motion quilt meanders all over this quilt. For the binding, I used two tan prints from the line.

For the second quilt, I used a cream triangle print for the background with the cool colored prints. I used a purple Aurifil thread to free motion quilt meanders for this quilt. I used two different purple prints for the binding for this quilt.

The big piecing of this pattern shows off the beautiful prints in this line!

Daisy Chain QAL {Quilt Top Reveal}

This week we are making our cross blocks and revealing the quilt layout. Thank you for participating with us!

Alternate your star blocks and your star blocks as shown in each diagram. Pay attention to the orientation of the “chain” through your star blocks – the chains should run diagonally from upper right to lower left in each block. It is also necessary to pay attention to the orientation of your cross blocks.

Here's the finished top of my baby sized version -- I did add a border to my quilt to make it a little bit larger. Since I finished this quilt quite a while ago, it has already been given to a lovely little lady named Abigail -- I'll share the full finish of this quilt on Friday!

For the twin version, my cross blocks are not all the same. Here's the first set before they were sewn together.

Halloween Spooks in Faboolous Fun {Autumn in the Air Hop + Giveaway}

Today I'm the hostess for the Autumn in the Air blog hop!

I'm more of a summer girl myself, but I love sewing for fall! This time around, I picked the Faboolous Fun line to sew up a new version of our Halloween Spooks pattern, which can be used to make a table runner or a wall hanging.

I really loved the green prints in this collection, so I decided to use that as the main background fabric. Oh, and guess what! This fabric GLOWS! (I'm not a photography wizard, but I did figure out a way to show the fabrics glowing in the dark!)

The pattern itself has options for scrappy piecing or strip piecing, and I chose the strip piecing methods. I used my own solid scraps to do the applique sections. I picked the cat, two bats, and the witch hat. I chose these because the black solid shows up so nicely against the lime green star print. I used black thread to do all of the machine applique stitching using a blanket stitch.

This is actually the first time I've made this pattern, despite it being one of our "original" Honey, Bunny, and Doll patterns.

A general applique block top: if you struggle with applique distorting your base fabric, cut your base fabric pieces a 1/2" or 1" larger than necessary and then trim down before assembly. This also can help you should your appliques shift and end up off-center!

I used black thread to do the quilting; I did squiggly lines interspersed with stars. The backing and the binding uses a web print and I used orange thread to top stitch the binding.
