Weekend Productiveness

Because I had a little major meltdown about my lab stuff, I ended up spending most of my weekend at home sewing on my argyle quilt. And I made homemade chicken noodle soup! It is delicious.

I did finish up another New York Beauty Block:

I made a lot of progress on my argyle quilt. I made more than 30 blocks!

Here's all the ones I made this weekend as well as the growing stack of all of them living on my kitchen chair.

Hope your weekends were also productive! Sign up for the jelly roll strip swap that I'm hosting!

WIP Wednesday: In a Bind

I'm finally catching up on my binding projects. My mom brought my Twist of Lime quilt this past weekend because the machine quilting got finished, so now just the binding stands between me and crossing this one off the WIP list.

My binding is from the Fantasia collection. A perfect find for this project.

I got the binding all sewed on Monday night and the edges all trimmed up to start hand stitching.

So now I'm off to hand stitch until I round all of the corners.

Finished Seville Quilt

Even though I sewed the binding onto this one ages and ages ago, between going in and out of town a dozen times and lots of lab work, it sat folded on my chair for most of the summer. Fail.

Especially when this thing is one of my favorite quilts ever. Silly me.

I even snapped some artsy outdoor shots.

Can't wait to cuddle with this one this fall!

Keeping Up

My mom and grandma have been here this weekend so I had to put the sewing on the backburner, but since last I posted, I finished up my last bee block for the month and sent them all off.

I also finished up another New York Beauty block and took a picture of all seven that I have completed so far.

Box Quilt Block: How I Made It (simpler!)

For this month for my NuBees swap, I decided that I wanted to do the "Box Quilt" Block from Quilter's Cache.

After finishing one block as the directions instruct, I figured that there were also some other ways to put this block together, while also avoiding set in seams. Here is my take on how to do this:

Start with the original directions and sew your 3.5 by 2 inch and 5 by 2 inch strips onto your starting 3.5 inch square.

Instead of piecing your "box" strips with triangles, I used the stitch and flip method to add the background triangles to the strips. These strips should be 5 by 2 inches and 6.5 by 2 inches.

Your finished quarter will look like this:

And finish like this:

Have you figured out easier ways to make things?

September Bee Blocks (and more argyle)

My crazy two weeks are finally over and I have more time to sew, finally!

This month for the NuBees swap I decided to do the Box Quilt block from Quilter's Cache. I got three of the four done yesterday!

I also got 7 more argyle blocks done, bringing my total up to 55:

Lots more to go!

Work In Progress... Friday?

I am finally not spending 16 hours a day on campus so I have a little bit of time to sew. Just a little.

I finished up another New York Beauty block:

I am still plugging away on my argyle blocks.

I really need to start finishing things!

Beauteous

I am back from my weekend to see Park Ranger Boyfriend earlier than expected and was able to finish up another New York Beauty Block this afternoon before I get back into full-on sorority recruitment mode in a few hours.

This one I actually finished earlier in the week before I left:

And this one I finished today:

In other news, Park Ranger Boyfriend's presentation was absolutely wonderful and we had a nice weekend visiting with his family and Park Ranger Boyfriend's Park Ranger Buddies.

Weekend wanderings

I have taken a little break from my argyle quilt to use my new fabric for my New York Beauty blocks. I finished the third block yesterday:

Here are all three finished blocks:

I started the fourth block and the paper piecing is completed:
