Unboxed: My Second 2020 {Island Batik Ambassador} Box!

I'm so excited to show off the things that came in my second Island Batik Ambassador shipment for 2020!

First off -- batting from Hobbs bonded fibers! Let me tell you -- living in sort of the middle of no where, it is so nice to have a few battings on hand and not have to make a special trip out to buy one, which I used to have to do quite often! I'm excited to play with the fusible batting roll -- is a jelly roll rug in my future?

I have two "surprise" packages that are soon-to-be released lines that I can't show off just yet! Just believe me when I say they are gorgeous!

I also received some half-yard cuts of batik basics that coordinate with my "surprise" packages; you can get an idea of what the color schemes will be!

Next up is a gorgeous fat quarter bundle of Catching Dreams! Love those purples.

This time around we each received a Studio 180 ruler to try! I've never used one of these before and I am excited to try it out. This was bundled with a set of 2.5" strips and coordinating cuts of yardage from the Nouveau Soul line.

I also received a 10" square stacker of the Venetian Marble line with some coordinating yardage.

And I would be remiss if I skipped over the extra large cuts of solids and basics! I have started using the solids for some of my backings on my Island Batik projects and it's worked out great!

One of my favorite things that usually makes an appearance in our Ambassador boxes are the stash builder rolls! These two are all blues and all teals, respectively, and I think a lot of those blue fabrics will be turned into a baby quilt for one of our best friends! And Aurifil thread is always a good addition!

The final thing in our boxes, which I am so excited to show, is a full kit from By Annie's to make one of their bag patterns! A while back we got to chose one of their patterns and I chose the Open Wide pouch patterns. They picked fabrics for us and all of the coordinating notions! I'm very nervous to work on this project but I am in DESPERATE need of a new set of travel toiletry bags!

2020 Island Batik Ambassador Unboxing

I'm so excited to be returning for a fourth year as an Island Batik Ambassador!

Today I have my unboxing video to share -- live from my freshly painted sewing room!

Here are all the items, in picture form!

Happy Mail {Island Batik Ambassador Box #2}

Twice a year it's like Christmas for Island Batik Ambassadors!

I shared my unboxing video a few days ago on our Facebook page, but here it is for those of you who may have missed it:

Here are some photos as well:

First up, my strip pack of Sand Bar, coordinating two yard cuts, and coordinating half yard cuts. These are the fabrics that I am going to be using in my August project. I'm going to be making the wall hanging size version of our Starburst pattern.

Next, a 10" stacker of Quiet Shades, coordinating two yard cuts, and coordinating half yard cuts. These beautiful pastels will be used for my September baby quilt project.

I also received a fat quarter bundle of the Primo line. I absolutely love all of the different geometric prints in jewel colors.

Basics are also always good to have on hand -- four yard cuts of neutral batik and solid black, white, and grey!

Two spools of Aurifil as well as a brand new "block on board" die from Accuquilt also were tucked in this box:

Finally, three lovely battings came from Hobbs, one queen sized cotton, one throw cotton-wool blend, and one throw wool.

Now, the best part: I have cleaned some of my fabrics from my previous boxes to share with you!

I have a fabric bundle to give away to a lucky winner!

This bundle is all of the scraps, remains, and remnants of the Flea Market fabric that I used to make my Daisy Chain quilt.

House Warming Present {IB Amabassador Goodies 2019}

As you may know, my husband and I recently bought a house and have spent the majority of January packing, moving, sorting, and unpacking. However, you might appreciate that the first package that arrived at the house wasn't anything for the house -- it was my first Island Batik Ambassador box for 2019!

Because we had so much to do, it sat in the living room for about 5 days before I had the time and space to open up the box!

Here are all of the fabric goodies I received:

From approximately left to right:
-half yard cuts of basics and blenders
-a five yard cut of neutral Sprinkles
-a strip pack of Flea Market and two 2 yard cuts of coordinates (which I will be using in my Daisy Chain quilt!)
-two stash builder roll bundles
-three 1 yard cuts of neutral solids
-a 2 yard cut of rayon and a rayon scarf
-five little spools of Aurifil
-surprise fabrics that I will use for my blog hop project in August (and it's beautiful!)

Hobbs batting also showered us with gifts:

-a black queen size 80/20 batting (I've never used a black batting before!)
-a crib size cotton batting
-a silk blend Tuscany collection throw batting
-a queen size cotton batting with scrim
-a queen size bleached 80/20 batting
-a Thermore batting for quilted clothing

There's also something special peaking out in the first picture. Can you tell what it is?

This year, Island Batik is also partnering with Accuquilt, who has provided me with an Accuquilt Go! cutter and dies to use! (I'm already in love with this machine!)

Of Borders and Babies {Shopping Spree}

It's the last quarter of the year, and that means it's time to focus on finishes, finishes, and more finishes so that there just might be the possibility that I could end the year with less than 15 WIPs. I'm also itching to get some quilts out of my house, either by gift or by sale, so I have fewer to move when we manage to buy a house.

So the logical thing for me to do was to go fabric shopping, right? Right -- because everything I bought (well, nearly everything) has been for finishing projects!

I have complained to a number of people recently that I have given seven baby girl quilts in a row and we've had no baby boys in our circle since a coworker had a boy over two years ago! Well ask and ye shall receive -- friends are having TWIN boys later this year. And of course, my already-made, ready-to-gift quilts won't work! So I'll be making matching baseball themed baby quilts out of this adorable Peanuts fabric:

My plan is to use our Ready, Set, Soar! pattern to make matching quilts with baseball appliques. I might use different colors for the bindings and backings. 

I also recently learned that a new to me quilt shop moved into my town and this past weekend was their big pre-quilt market sale! I had a lovely time visiting Charlotte's Cottage quilt shop, chatting with the owner, and picking out border fabric for not one, but two quilts!

I picked out the burgundy floral for my Double Delight quilt. The blue geometric print will be the final border on my Drift Away quilt.

I also might have just picked up a few things on sale just for stashing...

When I put the flower pot print in my cart, I had no idea how large the print was! I have a larger cut of this -- 1.25 yards -- so it might get used for a backing of some sort.

Happy Friday to you! No finishes here this week, but feeling a little bit accomplished with projects I can't share yet! 

Summer Shopping {Stash Additions and Shopping List}

I've added a few things to my stash this summer -- some for specific projects and some for stashing!

Back when I bought the fabric for the setting triangles for my Double Delight quilt, I also picked up a few cuts of clearance fabric:

I picked up half yards of the floral prints and a yard of the tiled cream print. These don't have any specific plans for use just yet. Over the last four years, I've really whittled down on whats in my stash, so I have been finding that it would be helpful to have a few more half yard and yard cuts on hand for things like bindings and spur-of-the-moment projects.

I also finally picked up a backing and a binding for my Magnolia mystery quilt! As a reminder, here's the quilt:

You can get this pattern from Cheryl at Meadow Mist Designs -- I modified my version by adding sashings and cornerstones between the blocks. 

For the backing and binding, I picked out these two fabrics from the True Blue line by Ana Davis. The drop print will be the backing and the twist fabric will be the binding. 

I really have a soft spot for these fun large scale prints for backings. I'm planning to put together a tutorial for when I get back from retreat about matching prints for backings, so keep your eyes out for that! I think the red is going to be so pretty for the binding against the grey solid.

As mentioned in my retreat prep post, I am going to be working on a new Fat Quarter Shop shortcut quilt using the Sweet Marion Line. I also picked up this coral print that's actually from a Downton  Abbey line (also an amazing clearance buy!) to use for the backing and binding for that quilt.

This is another fun, large-scale print! Once I get back from retreat, I'll hopefully have this quilt in Sweet Marion done so both that quilt and my Magnolia quilt will be ready to quilt! I should be lined up for quite a few finishes in September!

Even with this shopping I still need to get fabric for quite a few projects:
-white fabric for my pineapple quilt
-border fabrics for Double Delight and Drift Away
-backing fabrics for Blocked Rainbow and Breezy Blooms
...and this is kind of a brief list focusing on the things I want to finish first.

On Monday, I'm going to be the featured interview with my good friend Jen of Patterns By Jen as part of the lead up to the Border Quilt QAL that will kick off in September! Make sure to check that out next week. I'm hoping to have at least one post scheduled for the blog while I am gone on retreat, but I am planning to post lots of pictures on Instagram of my progress and adventures.

Christmas in July {Island Batik Ambassador Box Opening}

Saturday certainly felt like Christmas in July -- my second Island Batik Ambassador goodie box arrived!

For those that may not know, as an Island Batik Ambassador, I am provided a lovely LOVELY box of fabric and goodies twice a year by Island Batik! We do challenges every month based around a theme and have blog hops featuring the newest fabric lines two times a year. This is my second year and hopefully not the last!
