Orphan Block Mini Quilt {A Little Finish}

I made a mini!

This 12.5" block has been hanging around in my pile of orphan blocks since at least 2014. Yes, 2014! This block came to me as a swap block, when I participated in a monthly block swap on Flickr. (Takes me way back!)

I used many of the other blocks to make these baby quilts but this was one of the blocks whose color scheme wasn't exactly right.

I was just in the mood to do a little FMQ and burn through some batting scraps. I quilted this with white Aurifil in a meander. The backing is "vintage" Anna Maria Horner -- this is a Bubble Burst print from the Innocent Crush line.

The binding is the same bias binding that I used on my Blooming Bear Tracks quilt that I shared last week! I used purple thread to topstitch the binding.

Sometimes you need to just make something quick and simple.

Quilt Stats:
Name: Pastel Mini Quilt
Pattern: 99% sure it's Double Aster from the Quilter's Cache
Fabrics: Scraps
Quilting: meander in white 40 wt. Aurifil
Size: 12" square
Started: the block was originally made in 2014!
Finished: March 2019
Future: doll quilt or mini quilt for my sewing room

Sew Pieceful Block Catch Up

No finishes here today but it occurred to me that I hadn't posted anything about what Sew Pieceful blocks I had received in a long time so I figured today would be a good day to share them!

Here are all of my peach-mint-lavender blocks:

The colors on some of the blocks were kind of disappointingly off, but I can always use them in something else.

Here are the ones that are the right colors and 4 out of 9 of them I made myself. I'm going to make a wall hanging or baby quilt out of these ones.

Here are three other ones that all matched each other that I am going to make into a table runner.

For our September round, I decided to switch up my color scheme and requested cotton candy pink, turquoise, and lemon yellow blocks. Here are all of my September ones, plus the October block I made and one from another swapper.

Here's the blocks that I made for October for the bee:

Happy Friday to you!

September Stash Bee and Sew Pieceful Blocks

Bee block roundup time!

This month in the Stash Bee Samantha requested that we make any sort of flying geese blocks in olive, chocolate, dark red, and gold. I made an 18 inch block with geese in various sizes.

September #stashbee block! Plus extra geese to throw in anywhere.

This month for the Sew Pieceful Bee, I made the Variable Star block from the Quilter's Cache.

I also made an angel block to make up for someone dropping out last month using the Union Square Variation block. The tutorial doesn't use fast flying geese or quick HSTs and I didn't realize it until after I did all of my cutting -- boo! Nonetheless, the block turned out pretty well.

Happy Thursday! Keep an eye open over at the Stash Bee Blog because sign ups for the 2015 round are fast approaching and yours truly is taking over as the Bee Mama! :)

August Sew Kitschy Block and August Sew Pieceful Blocks

Happy Sunday! I've been sort of radio silent this week due to family stuff, a job interview (!!!), and some sort of the cold/flu relegating me to the couch for the last two days but now I'm finally feeling a little better to start getting caught up posting on my projects.

Quiet Play

This month for my Sew Pieceful Bee blocks, I used the Wampum Block pattern from the Quilter's Cache.

I think this is the last month for my peach, mint, and lavender color scheme. I am pretty sure that I have enough blocks. A few are nothing like the colors I requested (so disappointing!) but I think I will use them in a different quilt. I'm thinking about making a "bright pastel" quilt with the ones that don't quite fit into the peach, mint, and lavender scheme and using lots of different colors. Once I get my blocks this month, I'll post a picture of all of my received blocks.

Have a lovely day!

July Sew Pieceful Swap Blocks

This month in the Sew Pieceful Bee on Flickr we have tiny hives! I only had to make 4 blocks including one for myself!

I decided to use the Weathervane block this month as my block of choice.

All three of the blocks that I made for my hive mates have black backgrounds. I used a few different white on white prints for the background of my block since the previous blocks I had made both had grey for background.

Here are all of the blocks that I've made (three in the left most column) and the ones that I received in May and June.

I've seen my July blocks (at least some of them!) posted in the Flickr Group, but none have come in the mail just yet.

Happy Friday to you! I'm WAY behind on putting together the tutorial for the QCQAL block that comes out on Monday, so I'll be doing that as soon as I get off the computer!

June Sew Pieceful Bee Blocks

These still need to go in the mail, but they are done! The four on the left are the ones for my swap mates and the one on the right is for me!

I used a modified version of a Wild Goose Chase pattern I found in the Quilter's Cache and spent a lot of time making flying geese these last few weeks!

I think my favorite one is the Halloween one in the lower left corner, other than my own of course!

Now I am all out of my stash of mint green fabric (which wasn't very much to begin with!) so I'm going to have to go shopping! Good thing my birthday is next Sunday!

WIP Wednesday: Bees and Geese

Today I'm working on finishing up the last two bee blocks for this month in the Sew Pieceful Bee.

Here are the first three blocks that I made:

The grey, peach, lilac and mint block is my block for me. The other two are are for my swap-mates. I have been making piles of fast flying geese lately!! Isn't the Halloween block fun??

The two blocks I need to make today are 1) aqua/lime green/yellow and 2) night sky colors with black.

I am about 99% sure that is the only piece of fabric I have right now with ANY lime green in it. I guess that I've finally run out of the scraps from my Twist of Lime quilt!

I'm starting on the night sky block first.

Four down, twenty eight more geese to go today.

May Bee Blocks

I did actually get these blocks done before the move but didn't get to posting them until just now!

This month for the Stash Bee, Sheila requested a bento box style block in black and white prints. I made two blocks and this was the ONLY black on white print that I had in my entire stash. I must need to go shopping!

This month I also signed up for the Sew Pieceful Bee on Flickr! It's a monthly sign-up bee and I don't know what I was thinking signing up for May when I was moving! My chosen colors were peach, mint, and lavender and this is my color inspiration mosaic:

Here are the blocks I made this month for myself (first one in the top row) and my hive mates.

I used the Squash Blossom Block tutorial from Bloomin' Workshop for these blocks. I was able to use a lot of small pieces of scrap for these -- especially for those star points!

One of my swap partners this month was Cheryl from Texas Quilting Gal who won the Traveling Stash Box from me! If you didn't win this time around and want a chance -- go to her blog and enter! She'll actually have a second giveaway for a different stash box soon -- lucky girl won two of them recently!!

Sharing today at Linky Tuesday!
