Hello From The Other Side

Hello, it's me. It's been a long time, and maybe you remember that I used to sew and blog quite a bit. Things have been, um, quite different.

I'm going to go further back than necessary and say that 2020 was a year for me. I think it was a year for everyone, but being pregnant and having a baby during a pandemic was especially difficult.

Despite the fact that I was at home more than ever, I sewed less than ever. I managed to do some quilting and mask making early on, but even that tapered off significantly once I moved my sewing space into the guest room and my sewing room became the nursery. (I do have two finished projects to post about, eventually.)

I did have a baby boy in October, so that was my main project for the year.

And since then, everything has been a blur. There were supposedly a bunch of holidays that have already come and gone. My idea that I could sew while the baby napped was a farce. My sweet grandmother passed away due to coronavirus complications without meeting my son. A flurry of family came to visit. My son is already three months old and doing all sorts of things that make me wish for time to slow down. I'm back to work (part time on site, part time work from home) and figuring out being a working mom.

I'm not sure what's next but I still have all of those same unfinished projects hanging around, so maybe I should finally just work on those if I can ever figure out how to find time to sew again.

  3. You probably won't believe either of these things, but your son will grow up faster than you know and someday you will have more time to sew and quilt. Congratulations and enjoy every minute with your little boy.

  8. I am so sorry your grandmother passed away from coronavirus complications and wasn't able to meet your son. I am sending you so much love and know that your priorities are absolutely in the right place, but when you have time to quilt, I hope you still find it enjoyable and I'll be excited to see what you can share with us whenever the time is right. I hope 2021 is a better year for us all.

  10. Congratulations on the arrival of the best project ever! Covid times have been hard; I am very sorry about your grandmother's death. There are so many things we have missed or not been able to do, but I remain grateful for what I have and can do. Best of luck with 2021 and the year will unfold as it should...you have some priorities that are a bit different now.

  12. Congratulations on that adorable 2020 project. I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother.

I also was not able to get any sewing done when my son was that age. I'm always baffled by those who say they sew when the baby napped! It did get better for me as he got older (he's 7 now) and I hope that is the case for you as well.

  13. Hi, Alison! I think one of the *hardest* things about having a little one is that things change a lot: Once you're in the groove with one schedule, his needs change and you have to, too. One of the *best* things about having a little one is that things change a lot: What you're experiencing now is temporary. You may not be able to focus on work and your son, but you'll eventually be able to find the bandwidth for sewing, too.

Sending lots of love and encouragement your way!

  14. Congrats on the new addition to the family! It's a juggling act definitely to handle a little one, job and all the other life demands. It will get easier sometimes and it will harder other times. My best suggestion for finding stitching time is to find 15 to 30 minutes a few times a week, preferable when your guy is home to cuddle/amuse the little and claim that as your sanity time for hanging out in the sewing room. You won't get things done quickly, but you will move things along. Hang in there, they do eventually leave for college and then you miss them like crazy.

  15. There is nothing sweeter in this world than the smell of your newborn baby’s breath, the happy cooing sounds and the smell of baby skin. Congratulations on your new bundle of joy.

  16. Are you looking for shoes that help in jumping and are good for dunking? We have professional reviews of the best basketball shoes for jumping that will give you an edge over other players and helps you in jumping higher. The shoes are light in weight which gives a player enough leap in the air as required. The strong shoe cushions are enough to absorb harsh landing impacts and avoid injuries.

  17. In many ways, innovation has become the “product” that many of today’s leading companies create and sell to their customers. Creating one brilliant offering and reaching number one status in your category is no longer enough; 21st Century success means doing it over and over again. Across industries from food and beverage to tech and manufacturing, old standards of productivity have been disrupted because we have realized that a steady stream of new, competitive offerings (or improvements to one or two core products) is the key to exponential growth. However, continuously breaking new ground is easier said than done—the innovation team’s job is to generate their own creative tension or friction and harness it to create new solutions for problems their customers may not even be aware of yet.
