Progress Report {Mid-year Check in with Quilting JetGirl}

Yvonne has set up a link-up encouraging all of us to look back on the goals we set for ourselves in 2018 and see how we've fared halfway through the year.

My three goals for 2018 were:

1. Quilt and finish some of my completed (or nearly completed quilt tops)
2. Host a new QAL and improve engagement
3. Say "no" with more frequency.

Here's how I think I've done with each of them:

1. Quilt and finish some of my completed (or nearly completed quilt tops)
Moderate Success -- doing my monthly "Brutal Honesty" posts with my full WIP list keeps me honest and ensures that I completely forget about a project. I've finished seven different projects that were on my WIP list in January, three of which were actually WIPs at the start of 2017 -- Top Spin, Farmer's Wife, and Summer on the Coast.

2. Host a new QAL and improve engagement
Great Success -- the Blocked Rainbow QAL has come and gone already! We had a lot of new faces that joined us this time around and I set up a Facebook group. Now to just finish my own quilt...

3. Say "no" with more frequency.
Mild Success -- I don't know if I am actually saying no more or not -- but overall, I'm feeling less overwhelmed by my commitments both with sewing and personally. I think most of this is just being more organized and prioritizing anything with a deadline over other sewing -- even if that means not having three blog posts every week. I'm also focusing on sewing for fun and making sure that my commitments are fun too!

Don't forget to stop by to check in with everyone else at Quilting JetGirl!

  1. You are doing a fine job with your goals - it is a good feeling isn’t it! Congrats on running a QAL. Did you do a post on hints on running one? I think of doing it, but am not sure about all the logistics.

  2. Even if you are not saying "no" more frequently, making changes and feeling less overwhelmed by commitments is fantastic! I really enjoy the brutal honesty posts and it definitely seems like you have been working through your list.

  3. Farmer's Wife or Gypsy's Wife are on my quilting bucket list.
I say "no" to myself most of the time. There are so many quilts I want to make but I have to be realistic with my time constraints. I only quilt on the weekends and then not every weekend.
Since the majority of my fabric is thrifted, I don't feel any remorse culling the stash and sending it back to the Great Thrift Shop Beyond. I don't keep little tiny scraps either. To me, the smaller the scrap, the more OCD it becomes.
It is hard to tell yourself NO, but it does narrow down projects. Oh, I also give away all of the scraps associated with a kit quilt. Once I am done with it, I know I am not going to make another quilt in the same color palette.

  6. You've done well on your goals this year and you've still got 6 months to do even more. Setting priorities seems to be the best way to manage things. Good luck with the rest of the year.
