Sunday Shoes

Over the last few days, I have started on and made MAJOR progress on the shoe quilt, mainly because its so easy to do a few blocks at a time.

This is the first time I've used this type of pattern; you trace the cutting lines on your freezer paper and then iron it onto a pair of layer cake pieces and then cut on the lines. You sew pieces together in the order in the pattern and there's only two places you need to worry about matching. They need to be trimmed down, but I'll do that all at the end.

Anyways, my layer cake had 42 pieces and so I will get 42 blocks that end up around 7.5 inches square.

Good luck starting your new weeks!

Sweet Endings

Despite the crazy going on the last two weeks, I managed to finish (yes, FINISH) my Seville top! Hooray!

This one was a tough one with all of the matching, but it is so beautiful!

I particularly love this one because nearly all of the fabric was "free to me" left over from my sister, except for the medium pink with the green polka dots and the white background. I had just enough fabric to do the borders.

Another to add to the finished top pile to take to the quilter while I am home!

(Get the pattern here!)

Snowflake Quilt Border

I finally decided to put a border on my snowflake quilt.

So now I need to figure out what I want to do with the back of this. Which will likely take months at the rate I've been going lately. Sigh.

Happy Saturday!

Scrap Block Challenge: Garden Disappearing Nine Patch Tutorial

If you're visiting from the scrap block challenge from Confessions of a Fabric Addict, welcome!

I've never entered a contest with my quilting and can't spend all day in front of my machine, a one block challenge was right up my alley! Thanks, Sarah!

The directions of the design challenge stipulated:
The blocks use squares of 5", 3.5", or 2" (or can be cut from one of those sizes)
Solids are allowed and finished blocks can be any size.
Finished designs will be used for the quilt ministry (super awesome!)

So I present my take on a disappearing nine patch -- garden style!

You will need:
For nine patch: 9-5" squares: 4 of one fabric, 4 of a second, and 1 of a third.
For stitch and flip corners: 3-5" squares in green, each cut into 4-2.5" squares (you need 12-2.5" squares total)

Lay out your 9 patch as shown below, with the corners as one color, the sides another, and the center as the third. The corner blocks will be the large portion of your "petals" so keep this in mind when you make your color and layout choices. Sew together and press.

Cut your sewn nine patch into half vertically and horizontally to yeild 4 blocks.

On 3 of the 4 corners of your new blocks, sew your green squares along the diagonal for stitch and flip triangles. Cut your seam allowances to a quarter inch and press open.

*Note: I chose to do only three corners, but you could definitely play around and do stitch and flip triangles on any combination of the corners for alternate patterns.

When you sew your blocks back together, you actually have a number of options:

...but my favorite was the flower.

Thanks to all the new visitors and old regulars to Little Bunny Quilts!

Right now.

I have 3 pairs of rows sewn together on my Seville quilt and the rest is stacked neatly waiting (sort of). I wanted to get it done before Park Ranger Boyfriend was here this weekend, but that definitely did not happen.

I did make some paper heart garlands for Valentine's Day a few weeks ago (found on Pinterest, inspired by here).

And I also came up with a block design for Confessions of a Fabric Addict's scrap block challenge. It is very easy and I am very happy with it. So come back tomorrow morning and I will have a tutorial for my design, as well as a link to all of the other scrap block entries!

Happy Tuesday!
