Meet the Chefs! {Best of Moda Bake Shop Book Hop}

Today is my day to shout from the rooftops all about myself and my quilt that's featured in the Best of Moda Bake Shop book!

For the book, I made a new version of the Garden Plots quilt pattern that was originally published on Moda Bake Shop in 2018. (The pattern is now only available in the book.)

The new version of the quilt features Painted Meadow by Robin Pickens. I used the large scale prints in the line for the center of the blocks. Each block uses two jelly roll strips in similar colors and the block design gives the illusion of sashing without actually having sashing between the blocks! The pattern makes a very lovely throw, but you could easily adjust the number of blocks to make a larger or smaller quilt to your heart's desire!

Here are some pictures of my original quilt!

A little about me too! Here are the "official questions" for our blog hop:

-Favorite Precut -- Jelly Roll
-Favorite Sewing Tool -- Creative Grids 12.5" x 3.5" ruler
-Favorite Quilt Block -- Any sort of star block
-Favorite Sewing Snack -- Kettlecorn
-If I’m not at my sewing machine, you can find me -- probably at my "real" job working in a research lab!

And now for a GIVEAWAY! I am giving away two copies of the book -- one copy here on my blog and one copy on Instagram. Click here to visit my Instagram post.

To enter to win, leave a comment telling me the following: What is your favorite project that you've ever made with a JELLY ROLL?

One comment per person, please. The giveaway will close on Thursday, August 6th at midnight and I will pick a winner on August 7th.

  2. I have actually never used a jelly roll!! I even searched my blog to verify that fact! I've made quilts with 2 1/2" strips, but I've always cut them from yardage or fat quarters. I guess that needs to move closer to the top of my to-do list!!

  3. Can you believe I've never made a quilt using a jelly roll!? I keep seeing the fabulous patterns based on the JR but my accumulated stash is yardage and fat quarters that I need to use up. Your pattern is adorable!

  4. Love the convenience of the jelly rolls but Ill also incorporate some stash fabrics too. I've made quilts, table runners and bags, Have jelly roll...have more options in fabrics. LOL
Love the Garden plots quilt and its name since I too have plenty of real garden plots around here that have been infringing on my quilting time.
Thanks for the chance on winning this book and sharing your talents with all of us. Stay well

  5. My favorite quilt made with a jelly roll is a granny square quilt.

  6. I haven't made a quilt from a jelly roll. My experience is that the strips are poorly cut and those pinked edges are very annoying. I prefer to cut my own strips. The jelly rolls I've purchase (not many) remain unused. Hope that doesn't disqualify me from the giveaway.

  7. My favorite make from a jelly roll was a quilt I made for my brother-in-law after he had a heart attack. It went together very quickly and was bright and cheerful. That was 10 years ago and it’s still a favorite today.

  13. My jelly roll rug is the project I love the most. Unfortunately, it was also the project I disliked making the most. It was frustrating and difficult to make, but the end result was well worth the effort.

  16. You really got me thinking...I have a bunch of jelly rolls, but haven't made a full quilt with them yet. I should get busy! I have made some really cute table toppers with jelly rolls, though--using a "braid" tool. I initially did that to get in practice to make a full-sized quilt out of the same pattern. Seems like the time is right for me to get on that. Congrats on being included in this fun book!

  17. My first - and my favourite - was a jelly roll race quilt that we did as a race one Quilt Group meeting. Minimal cutting and a quilt top in a couple of hours. I may have to do it again!

  30. I've used solid jelly roll strips for binding on quilts, but I've never used any of my print jelly rolls for a project--not sure if I haven't found the right pattern, or I just can't open those jelly rolls!

  33. I love the bright colors in your new version! My favorite thing I've made with a jelly roll is Tropical Stars, made for one of the Island Batik challenges last year. I also did a friendship braid for when I was pregnant for my then-no-yet-born baby with a jelly roll of hand dyed fabrics I bought at a local quilt show--that quilt is pretty near and dear to my heart!
