Brutal Honesty {June 2018}

June is here! I have always loved June because June is my birthday month and because I can eat my weight in watermelon and berries and not feel bad about it. Read all the way through for a great quilting community announcement!

My May goals were to finish my May IBA pillow project, which I did, and to finish my Traveling Quilt Bee quilt, which I did not quite accomplish.

Quilting in Progress:
1. Traveling Quilt Bee (2016) -- 5/8 sections completed - I have two more "center sections" to complete and then I'll work on the borders. I am hoping to finish up the center sections this weekend.

Completed tops:
2. Magnolia Mystery QAL -- This top needs a final trim (since it's on point) and I need to shop for a backing.

Tops partially finished:
3. Bonnie and Camille C2C Bee Quilt -- No progress
4. Romantic Garden Quilt -- No progress
5. Monthly Wall Hangings -- No progress

Just blocks and units:
6. Pineapple Stash Bee Blocks -- No progress
7. Sew Kitschy Blocks -- No progress
8. Cubicle Quilts --  No progress
9. Happy Houses blocks -- No progress
10. Birthstone blocks -- No progress
11. Donuts quilt -- No progress
12. Double Delight -- I have all of the blocks for this quilt done! I need to go shopping for fabric for the setting triangles, since I didn't find anything workable in my stash.

Quilt alongs and long term projects:
13. Monthly Island Batik Ambassador projects -- My May project was a pillow that matched my April project. Our theme for June is modern-inspired quilts -- I have a large mini (or midi?) quilt designed that I will start sharing about next week!

14. Breezy Blooms C2C Bee -- I am done with my addition to Karen's quilt but not quite ready to share it yet! Here's a preview:

15. Blocked Rainbow Quilt --  Monday is the start of sharing finished tops! My quilt top is done and I'm plotting how to quilt it. If you've made a quilt top with us, please email a picture to me at littlebunnyquilts@gmail.com this weekend!

My goal for this month is to *actually* finish my Traveling Quilt Bee quilt and to go shopping (online or in store) to get fabric to finish up some of the tops that aren't quite finished and for backings.

I'm also excited to share that Honey, Bunny, and Doll will be participating in the first-ever Tips and Tutorials Festival hosted by Cheryl of Meadow Mist Designs and Yvonne of Quilting Jetgirl! We are sponsoring a prize and I'll be writing at least one tips and tutorials post!

Have a wonderful weekend!

On Ringo Lake {Finished Quilt}

Since my mom came into town for the long weekend, we got to spend a lot of time sewing and gabbing in between eating and forcing her to watch all of the sports with my husband and I (bless her heart!). She also brought me not one, but two finished quilts!

First up is my On Ringo Lake quilt! This was simply pantograph quilted with loops and my mom was nice enough to machine bind it for me using the backing fabric.

While I was extremely happy with the quilt when I finished the top, I absolutely love it now that it's finished.

This was my first Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt and I really loved it! I definitely fell behind through the holidays since we were out of town, but I still was able to finish the top before the end of January.

I'm not exactly sure what I'll be using this quilt for just yet, but I'm sure I'll be using it this summer!

Quilt Stats:

Name: On Ringo Lake
Size: Approximately 60" square
Fabrics: scraps!
Quilting: pantograph loops in black thread
Started: November 2018
Finished: May 2018

PS. For the time being Blogger isn't sending email notifications to me when you leave a comment. I will do my best to follow up either via comment or by email to your comments. I hope that this issue is resolved soon!

Block Party {Double Delight}

I've been having so much fun on this project, it's been hard to stop and work on other projects! The fact that I had to do very little pinning for both sets of blocks has made it quick and easy.

The double nine patch blocks are interspersed with cream squares that use the same fabrics in the square-in-a-square and little nine patch units. Since I needed 20 blocks, I stacked up the units in piles of 20 and just zipped away at chain piecing the blocks together. For variety, every few blocks, I rotated the piles nine patches 90 degrees.

I was a little concerned when I started the Rolling Star blocks that I would have to do a lot of pinning to get the points of the square in a square units to line up. However, after pinning the first couple, I found that I didn't actually need to pin each unit! I think my careful trimming (and the time it consumed!) paid off!

I have finished 12 or so of the 30 Rolling Star blocks for the quilt. I also made sure to press these blocks so that the seams will interlock with the 9 patch blocks for easy matching and top construction. I also have been occasionally rotating the piles of mulberry and chartreuse square in a square units so that the same fabrics aren't in the same locations for every block.

I've been thinking about what I'll use for the setting triangles and I will need more than a half yard. I have a few full yards hanging out in my stash that I'll audition. I don't think I want to do pink setting triangles like the original, and I'm leaning toward navy or mulberry, but ultimately it will be dependent on what I find in my stash.

What are your suggestions the setting triangles? Pink, navy, mulberry, chartreuse, or cream?

Happy Wednesday! Linking up with Let's Bee Social and Needle and Thread Thursday!

Blocked Rainbow QAL {Week #7 - Setting Directions}

The 2018 quilt along is now over and the entire pattern is available as a single PDF pattern on Etsy and Craftsy.

We've come to the home stretch of our Blocked Rainbow QAL! Thank you to all of you for joining us!

Let's get to it! If you already cut your spacers, you can pull those out again. If you haven't cut the spacers, refer to this post on how to cut them. Here are the sizes again:

Lay out quilt blocks as shown in the diagram with the spacers in the correct locations.

Sew together quilt blocks in columns rather than rows.

Sew columns together to complete quilt top. Quilt as desired and bind.

The throw quilt top will measure 48" x 66". The twin sized quilt top will measure 72" x 99".

The twin size quilt is really an XL twin size. It's so big my husband and I had a hard time wrangling it for pictures.

Next week is Memorial Day and also an off week so that we have two full weeks between the setting directions coming out and the start of the quilt top parade on June 4th. Starting now, if you finish your quilt top, please email me a photo of your quilt top at littlebunnyquilts@gmail.com.  I will have a post that will go up on June 4th and will continue updating the blog post with finished tops and quilts until June 18th and announce prize winners that day. As a reminder here are all of our prize sponsors, thank you to the designers that have already sponsored our weekly giveaways!

Diamond Sunrise {Modern By The Yard}

I'm excited to share that I have another project featured in Benartex's Modern By The Yard ezine!

My project in this issue called "Diamond Sunrise" -- an advanced level table runner pattern that uses strip pieced diamonds for an ombre effect!

This project uses the Sunburst line from Kanvas. I used all five of the color collage prints together to strip piece the sections.

For the quilting, I quilted wishbones within each of the diamond shapes. Here's a picture of the backing where you can see some of the quilting! This one was a lot of fun to FMQ.
