The collection that I am using is called "Bonsai" -- which has a number of different beautiful Asian-inspired prints!
I've used a few of the prints in my June Marigold mini, but saved most of the fabric for this project. I fiddled around with some other ideas before I settled on making a new version of our Shadow Boxes pattern.
I decided to go big -- the pattern is for a queen sized quilt! One of the great things about this pattern which works great with the Bonsai line is that the large pieces are perfect for showing off some of the larger scale prints in this line (or any line with large scale prints!).
For cutting, I cut approximately the same number of rectangles and the same number of squares from each fabric. Some had a few more and some a few less, but I tried to not "over use" any one particular fabric.
It only takes four straight seams -- and no HSTs! -- to put a block together! I randomly paired the squares together and then paired those sections with the rectangles.
49 blocks into rows, and rows into a full quilt top -- this top came together in no time at all! I love that instead of using a more "neutral" fabric as the sashing, I used the light purple petal print. I think it's a fun change from the original quilt that gives it a bit of personality.
My mom was lovely enough to quilt this on her mid-arm for me. I love the simple quilting and might actually have to keep this quilt for myself!
Thanks for stopping by and taking a look at my new version of one of our most popular patterns! I hope that this "remix" sparks your creativity!
Now onto the giveaway -- a rather large stack of 5" squares from the Bonsai collection! I cut the remainders of the fabric into 5" squares for someone to use and enjoy!
