Friday Five #27: While I'm gone...

This week has proved unexpectedly busy and I have not gotten more than 10 inches sewn on the binding I thought I would get done before I left today to go to a wedding with Park Ranger Boyfriend. Oops.

So instead, I figured I would catch you up on some of my favorites thus far from the Let's Get Aquainted Blog Hop Tutorials and some new awesome events/series/blogs.

1. Getting rid of word verification
I don't know if word verification bugs you as much as it bugs me, but Chrissie D put together an easy peasy tutorial on how to get rid of it on your blog.

2. Erin's Reusable Hot Cup Holders
So you don't burn your hands! I definitely want to try to make some as gifties.

3. Alyssa's All About Everything Quilting Series
This is great series about the ins and outs of starting quilting, sewing events, supplies, starting out, and all that other good stuff that just started. The schedule is here.

4. Em's Road Trip Quilt Along
I am having the hardest time resisting starting this, but her block color choices are just too cute. One for every state her family's massive summer roadtrip.

5. Jenn's Chevron Pillow
In case you aren't ready to make that gigantic half square triangle chevron quilt, this is a fun pillow.

In other news, I got paid today and bought FOUR YARDS of Kona White online for my upcoming projects. Holla!

And because you can't have a good post without a picture, here's a picture of me and Park Ranger Boyfriend from a few weeks ago.

Tying up loose ends

Sunday was a rather productive sewing day. My sewing consultants (my mom and sister) gave lots of advice and helpful guidance in finishing the pieced back for my Twist of Lime quilt. It didn't end up quite big enough for the full backing, so it'll need a little bit of fabric all the way around.

I also finished up my Shoe Quilt top! It went together so fast!

I'm going to try to machine this myself with the free motion quilting foot I got for my birthday!

I also sewed the binding onto the snowflake quilt:

Just the hand stitching to go on this one!

Birthday Weekend

Thursday night, I worked on my fancy shcmancy pieced back. It is kind of wild in comparison to what I usually do, but I am excited to get out of my box a little bit (but not too much!). This is what I have so far:

Today I'm going to try to finish up a little bit more of it as I still have a rather large pile of black and green fabrics.

Friday was my birthday and my mom and sister came in for the weekend to visit! They stopped at a bunch of quilt stores on the way here and brought me some goodies:

The yardage is from the Blank Quilting Dragon Magic Collection and yes, that is a jelly roll of BLITZEN BY BASIC GREY. I have been lusting after some of this fabric since I first saw it a month or two ago online. And my mom and sister had no idea of this when they picked it out for me! Fabric soulmates.

We've basically just been hanging out and eating and kibitzing since they got into town Friday afternoon and its been wonderful. They brought me two quilted quilts to put bindings on and I'll show those off later this week. Hope your weekends have been wonderful!

Twist of Lime

Last night, I finished up the borders on my green, black, and white quilt, that shall henceforth be known as "Twist of Lime".

I have it hung up sideways from previous pictures, and there may or may not be packing tape involved in this display.

The black borders are a small polka dot pattern and the green border is one of the fabrics used in the quilt.

Now I'm working on getting things together for my first artsy pieced back made from the leftover fabric. Here's what I have so far:

In other news, I finally signed up for my first block swap bee! I joined the NuBees Swap and I am so excited! If you haven't been keeping up on it, please check out the recent and upcoming bloggers in the Let's Get Aquainted blog hop!

All sewn up

This post was originally going to be me saying "yay!" because I got my green, black, and white quilt (it really needs a name, people, suggestions???) sewn into rows, which would have been an awesome accomplishment.

But that actually took a lot less time than I expected, so I ended up sewing all of the rows together too. No big deal! Working with bigger blocks is so nice, it goes together so fast!

So here's the top (sans borders):

And because this is more twin-sized, it is slightly too long for me to use my closet-door-plus-binder-clip display system with total success. I love how all the different prints sort of blend together.

Here's a (slightly crooked) close up:

This weekend I'm off visiting Park Ranger Boyfriend, but once I get back, getting those borders picked and sewn on will be my next priority (other than work, I guess).

WIP: Green, black, and white layout

I got all of the blocks for my green, black, and white quilt laid out last night. I am hopefully going to start working on sewing on the rows together tonight!

Linking up with Lee at WIP Wednesday!

I have actually been working...

I have actually been working on my star blocks in the last week, but just not enough headway for an actual post until now. I finished up the last six star blocks last night and promptly went to bed (after taking pictures, of course).

So now I have all of them completed, so I can work on getting it all laid out this week:

Happy Monday!

Tuesday Tales

I finally finished my set of double sided napkins. I took this class all the way back in November.

I also received my second Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day winnings from Heather at Crafting (dot dot dot) -- hooray!

I got my new issue of Quiltmaker in the mail today, so I'm going to pour over that ten thousand times tonight.

Weekend Update

While I've been largely unmotivated to do much of anything this past week, I did manage to get 6 more star blocks done:

I laid out what I have done so far (I need to make 6 more star blocks) and here is how it looks:

..and here is a close up of the top section:

I think it is looking pretty fantastic so far! Have a wonderful, restful Sunday!

My Idea of a Good Time

My idea of a good Friday night is ogling the winnings that I got in the mail from Blue Crab Quilting from the Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day. Over 130 2.5 inch squares. I die of glee.

So I'm obsessive compulsively sorting squares and coming up with ten million ideas for them while having Taco Bell for dinner, drinking Baja Blast Mountain Dew, listening to the thunder, and watching romantic comedies.

Hope your Friday nights are exactly what you desire!
